A possibility of increasing efficiency of acousto-optic interaction at a wavelength of 10.6 mu m by surface plasmon polaritons is investigated. The diffraction of a surface plasmon polariton (excited by a volume beam) on a surface acoustic wave is analyzed and numerically simulated.
