The compositions in the series of Zn1-xBaxAl2O4:Eu3+ (x=0-0.3) codoped with 5 mol% Eu were prepared by the high temperature solid-state synthesis method. Crystalline phase, morphology and photoluminescence properties were characterized by XRD, SEM and spectroscopic techniques. Effect of Ba substitution on structure and photoluminescence characteristics was investigated. The intense red emission for ZnBaAl2O4:Eu3+ was exhibited and the highest emission (lambda(max) = 614 nm) corresponds to D-5(0) -> F-7(2) transition of Eu3+ ion. The optimum doping mole fractions of Ba in Zn1-xBaxAl2O4:Eu3+ is 0.2 mol. (C) 2015 Elsevier GmbH. All rights reserved.
