Glycosuria in primary glomerulopathies: prevalence and prognostic significance

Carolina Ormonde et al.

Summary: This study found a prevalence of glycosuria in 10% of PG patients, which was associated with more severe clinical presentation and worse renal outcome. In MN patients, there was an association with more severe interstitial fibrosis and tubular atrophy.

Spot urinary citrate-to-creatinine ratio is a marker for acid-base status in chronic kidney disease

Fabiola G. Gianella et al.

Summary: Serum bicarbonate concentration is not a sensitive marker, especially in CKD patients, while urinary citrate excretion rate may be a better indicator of acid-base status. In patients receiving potassium citrate therapy, an increase in urinary citrate-to-creatinine ratio may be a superior parameter for monitoring alkali therapy compared to serum bicarbonate concentration. Additional studies are needed before implementing a clinical test.

Fumarate modulates phospholipase A2 receptor autoimmunity-induced podocyte injury in membranous nephropathy

Hyung Ah Jo et al.

Summary: The downstream mechanisms leading to podocyte injury following phospholipase A2 receptor (PLA2R) autoimmunity are still unclear. However, studies have found that fumarate may play a role in this process and could potentially serve as a target for the treatment of PLA2R-associated membranous nephropathy.

Urine Metabolite Levels, Adverse Kidney Outcomes, and Mortality in CKD Patients: A Metabolome-wide Association Study

Inga Steinbrenner et al.

Summary: This study identified 55 urine metabolites significantly associated with adverse kidney outcomes and mortality. Higher levels of C-glycosyltryptophan were consistently associated with kidney failure, acute kidney injury, and death. Metabolites in the phosphatidylcholine pathway showed significant enrichment, improving the prediction performance for kidney failure.

Comprehensive metabolomic profiling in early IgA nephropathy patients reveals urine glycine as a prognostic biomarker

Sehoon Park et al.

Summary: The study identified urinary glycine as a potential biomarker for the diagnosis and prognosis of IgAN. Higher levels of urinary glycine were associated with a lower risk of kidney function decline in IgAN patients. Experimental validation in human kidney tubular epithelial cells showed that glycine could ameliorate inflammatory signals induced by tumor necrosis factor-alpha.
