Effects of barefoot vs. shod walking during indoor and outdoor conditions in younger and older adults

Karsten Hollander et al.

Summary: This study investigated the gait stability and variability measures in barefoot and shod locomotion in younger and older adults. The results showed that footwear and outdoor conditions had different effects on gait stability and variability parameters, indicating high adaptiveness of these parameters to experimental conditions. The findings highlight the clinical potential of barefoot walking.

Relationship of the Use of Short Footwear with the Development of Hallux Valgus in a Sample of Andalusian Schoolchildren

Maria Luisa Gonzalez-Elena et al.

Summary: Several studies have shown a relationship between poor footwear fit and feet deformities, specifically hallux valgus. This cross-sectional study analyzed the correlation between poor shoe fit and the risk of developing hallux valgus in schoolchildren. Results suggest that inadequately fitting footwear in length may be a risk factor for developing hallux valgus, especially during the rapid foot growth period in puberty.

Evaluation of Clinical Practice Guidelines on Fall Prevention and Management for Older Adults A Systematic Review

Manuel M. Montero-Odasso et al.

Summary: A systematic review of clinical practice guidelines for falls prevention and management for older adults showed a high degree of agreement in several areas with strong recommendations made, while other areas lacked consensus. Future guidelines should focus on clinical applicability and incorporate perspectives from patients and stakeholders.

Hallux valgus in pre-school-aged children: the effects of too-short shoes on the hallux angle and the effects of going barefoot on podiatric health

Wieland Kinz et al.

Summary: Wearing shoes of insufficient length may lead to hallux valgus. The study found a significant correlation between shoe fit and hallux angle in children. Going barefoot may help counteract the effects of wearing shoes that are too short.
