Optical and computational study of the trans ⇆ cis reversible isomerization of the commercial bis-azo dye Bismarck Brown Y

Kayrel E. K. Edwards et al.

Summary: The trans-cis-trans isomerization behavior of Bismarck Brown Y (BBY) in solution and polymeric thin films was studied using optical pump-probe experiments. The thermal cis-trans back isomerization rate constants provided insights into the influence of the local environment on the isomerization process. A highly unusual biexponential decay of the commercial azo dye BBY was observed, indicating the presence of two distinct isomerization processes. The faster isomerization process was more affected by the local environment and displayed higher rate constants in aprotic solvents compared to protic solvents.

A yellow to magenta multielectrochromic, pH sensor polymer based on 2,5-di(thienyl)pyrrole modified with methyl orange azo dye

Luis P. A. Silva et al.

Summary: The optical contrast and color modulation of p-conjugated polymers can be enhanced by incorporating organic dyes through modification of the monomer chemical structure. Methyl orange (MO) azo dye, widely used as a pH indicator, has been synthesized and characterized when derivatized with a 2,5-di (thienyl)pyrrole (SNS). The resulting polymer films showed promising electrochromic properties and potential applications in optoelectronic devices and pH optical sensors.

Colloidal and interface aqueous chemistry of dyes: Past, present and future scenarios in corrosion mitigation

Richika Ganjoo et al.

Summary: The most effective corrosion inhibitors are organic compounds, especially heterocyclic ones, with polar functional groups, nonbonding electrons, and multiple bonds. Dyes efficiently bind to metal surfaces through their electron-rich spots, known as adsorption centers, and have excellent anticorrosive properties. This review work focuses on the interfacial adsorption of dye molecules and how it negatively affects metallic corrosion, using the Langmuir isotherm model to block the active sites.

Conjugated Block Copolymers for Functional Nanostructures

Seulki Kang et al.

Summary: Conjugated polymers are actively studied as a low-cost alternative to inorganic semiconductors due to their unique optical and electrical properties. However, the presence of defects in typical conjugated polymer films negatively affects their transport properties. This article introduces the self-assembly of conjugated block copolymers (BCPs) as a method to improve the molecular packing structure and discusses the potential of this approach in the fabrication of functional polymer nanostructures.
