Morpho-agronomic and molecular comparison of fourteen varieties of rice (Oryza sativa) with the lines that gave them the origin

Lenin R. O. D. R. I. G. U. E. Z. Betancourth et al.

Summary: This research aimed to investigate the differences in morphology, agronomics, grain quality, and molecular characteristics between 14 rice varieties and their ancestors. The results showed that some varieties were grouped with their ancestors or their sibling ancestors, indicating similarities in their genetic profiles. However, due to the high heterozygosity of the varieties, further purification is required to establish their distinct genetic footprints.

DOMINANT AWN INHIBITOR Encodes the ALOG Protein Originating from Gene Duplication and Inhibits AWN Elongation by Suppressing Cell Proliferation and Elongation in Sorghum

Hideki Takanashi et al.

Summary: In this study, the DOMINANT AWN INHIBITOR (DAI) gene, encoding an ALOG family protein, was identified and characterized in sorghum. DAI is a duplicated gene in sorghum that inhibits awn development by suppressing cell proliferation and elongation. Heterologous expression of DAI in rice also inhibits awn elongation.
