Convective Vortices and Dust Devils Detected and Characterized by Mars 2020

R. Hueso et al.

Summary: We characterized vortex and dust devils at Jezero using data from the Mars Environmental Dynamics Analyzer (MEDA) instrument on Mars 2020. We found that vortices are abundant, with a peak at noon. At least one in every five vortices carries dust, and 75% of vortices with a pressure drop greater than 2.0 Pa are dusty. Vortices are more frequent and intense over terrains with lower thermal inertia.

Supervised Attention-Based Bidirectional Long Short-Term Memory Network for Nonlinear Dynamic Soft Sensor Application

Zeyu Yang et al.

Summary: Soft sensors are mathematical methods that describe the dependence of primary variables on secondary variables. This paper proposes a novel supervised attention-based bidirectional long short-term memory (SA-BiLSTM) model to handle nonlinear industrial process modeling with dynamic features. The SA-BiLSTM model introduces an attention mechanism to calculate the correlation between hidden features in each time step, thus avoiding the loss of important information. Additionally, this approach combines historical quality information and a moving window through a supervised strategy of quality variables to enhance the model's learning efficiency and prediction performance. Two real industrial examples demonstrate the superiority of the proposed method compared to conventional methods.

A novel pathway to construct gas concentration prediction model in real-world applications: Data augmentation; fast prediction; and interpolation and extrapolation

Jaehyeon Kim et al.

Summary: With the growing applications of gas sensors in various fields, the demand for high-performance gas sensors is increasing. Accurate prediction of gas concentration is particularly necessary for monitoring air quality, food freshness inspection, and medical diagnosis. In this study, we propose techniques to meet these requirements, including using the initial response slope for fast prediction and augmenting response data with 1/f noise measurements. We also introduce extrapolation and interpolation performances as new metrics for evaluating the gas concentration prediction model.

Summary: This paper proposes a new soft sensor framework that combines Xgboost decision trees and BiCG-LSTMs with self-attention mechanism network for predicting the melt intrinsic viscosity of polyester polymerization process. The framework selects relevant input variables, weights them, extracts hidden dynamic information, smoothes dynamic features and reduces overfitting. This approach effectively demonstrates the prediction accuracy in the application scenario.
