Spatiotemporal variation of flash floods in the Hengduan Mountains region affected by rainfall properties and land use

Xiaoyun Sun et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the effects of changes in precipitation and land use on spatiotemporal variation of flash floods in the Hengduan Mountains region of China. It found that the increase in flash flood events was closely correlated with the increased frequency and magnitude of heavy rainfall as well as the expansion of artificial surfaces. The study also revealed significant periodic variation in the occurrence of flash floods on various scales and identified a displacement of the center of gravity of flash flooding in the region.

A Landslide Susceptibility Evaluation of Highway Disasters Based on the Frequency Ratio Coupling Model

Huadan Fan et al.

Summary: Evaluating the susceptibility to highway landslides is crucial for keeping highways open. In this study, the city of Laibin in China was chosen as the study area, and nine evaluation factors were selected. Multiple models, including FR, AHP, LR, BPNN, and SVM, were used to evaluate the susceptibility. The results showed that the FR-LR model had the highest accuracy.

Performance analysis of advanced decision tree-based ensemble learning algorithms for landslide susceptibility mapping

Emrehan Kutlug Sahin et al.

Summary: In this study, decision forest-based ensemble learning algorithms CCF and RotFor were tested for landslide susceptibility mapping, along with other popular ensemble learning algorithms like RF, AdaBoost, and bagging. Performance was evaluated using OA, success rate curves, AUC analysis, McNemar's test, and ROC curves, showing that CCF outperformed RotFor by about 4% with no significant difference between CCF and other methods.

Natural hazard's effect and farmers' perception: Perspectives from flash floods and landslides in remotely mountainous regions of Vietnam

Nga Thanh Thi Pham et al.

Summary: Understanding indigenous people's perceptions of natural disasters, particularly flash floods and landslides, is crucial for further research on the impacts of these events. The study conducted in Vietnam revealed that the most observed impacts of natural disasters were a decline in productivity, decreased income, and more challenging working conditions. Furthermore, nearly 45% of farmers perceived an increasing trend in the frequency and impacts of flash floods and landslides over the past 15 years, indicating a need for improved awareness and adaptive strategies.

Evaluation of multi-hazard map produced using MaxEnt machine learning technique

Narges Javidan et al.

Summary: This study focused on creating a multi-hazard map in a watershed area in the Golestan Province, Iran, integrating susceptibility maps for flood, landslides, and gully erosion. The research demonstrated that 60% of the area is subjected to hazards, with landslides covering up to 21.2% of the entire territory. This type of multi-hazard map may serve as a useful tool for local administrators to identify areas susceptible to hazards on a large scale.
