Teachers of TikTok: Glimpses and gestures in the performance of professional identity

Summary: TikTok has become a significant platform for teachers to connect and share their experiences during the global pandemic and the shift towards digital education. This article focuses on a teacher from South Australia, 'Mr Luke', whose upbeat TikTok videos have gained a substantial following. Interviews with Mr Luke and an Australian pre-service teacher shed light on their thoughts about TikTok and its impact on professional practice. Key factors contributing to TikTok's popularity among educators are identified, with implications for teacher education and social media scholarship.

In-between child's play and teenage pop culture: tweens, TikTok & privacy

Summary: The study explores the dialectical relationship between TikTok and tweens, finding that TikTok is perceived as a liminal networked public between children's play and teenage pop culture. Parents' assumptions about their children's privacy practices may not necessarily align with tweens' capabilities to negotiate boundaries between the public and private.
