Erector Spinae Block with Opioid Free Anesthesia in Cirrhotic Patients Undergoing Hepatic Resection: A Randomized Controlled Trial

Minatallah A. Elshafie et al.

Summary: Bilateral erector spinae plane block with opioid free anesthesia is an effective approach for intra- and postoperative analgesia in cirrhotic patients undergoing liver resection. It provides somatic and visceral analgesia, reduces postoperative nausea and vomiting, delays the first request for analgesia, and decreases fentanyl consumption.

Postoperative analgesia efficacy of erector spinae plane block in adult abdominal surgery: A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized trials

Yuzheng Gao et al.

Summary: Compared with placebo, ESPB significantly reduces pain scores and opioid consumption after abdominal surgery. It also prolongs the time to first rescue analgesia and decreases the incidence of postoperative nausea and vomiting. Compared with TAPB, ESPB provides better analgesic efficacy after abdominal surgery.

Bilateral continuous erector spinae plane block using a programmed intermittent bolus regimen versus intrathecal morphine for postoperative analgesia in living donor laparoscopic hepatectomy: A randomized controlled trial

RyungA Kang et al.

Summary: The study showed that continuous bilateral erector spinae plane blocks did not reduce opioid consumption compared to intrathecal morphine after laparoscopic donor hepatectomy, but was associated with significantly reduced risk of postoperative nausea, vomiting, and pruritus.
