A Comparison of Three Measures to Identify Postnatal Anxiety: Analysis of the 2020 National Maternity Survey in England

Gracia Fellmeth et al.

Summary: Perinatal anxiety affects approximately 15% of women globally and is associated with negative outcomes for both mothers and infants. This study compared the prevalence of anxiety symptoms at six months postpartum using three different measures, and found that different measures identified different groups of women experiencing anxiety. Antenatal anxiety was the strongest predictor of postnatal anxiety, and women from minority ethnicities were less likely to self-identify anxiety compared to women of White ethnicity.

A validation of the Postpartum Specific Anxiety Scale 12-item research short-form for use during global crises with five translations

Sergio A. Silverio et al.

Summary: This study aims to create a simplified form of the Postpartum Specific Anxiety Scale, validate it for rapid response research during global crises, and provide versions in five other languages to increase global accessibility. The findings suggest that PSAS-RSF-C may serve as a useful clinical screening tool and offer a reliable assessment of postpartum anxiety during the COVID-19 pandemic.

A systematic review of patient-reported outcome measures to assess postpartum pain using Consensus Based Standards for the Selection of Health Measurement Instruments (COSMIN) guidelines

Pervez Sultan et al.

Summary: A systematic review was conducted following COSMIN guidelines to identify the best PROM for postpartum pain. SF-BPI was found to be the best performing instrument, meeting Class A recommendation, but still needing improvement to assess all important domains of pain. Future studies are needed to develop a new PROM specifically for postpartum pain assessment.

The Impact of Perceived Social Support During Pregnancy on Postpartum Infant-Focused Anxieties: A Prospective Cohort Study of Mothers in Northern Jordan

Heba H. Hijazi et al.

Summary: This study found that providing pregnant women with high levels of emotional support from close social networks and informational support from health care providers can help reduce postpartum anxiety levels related to infant safety and welfare. However, receiving tangible support from close social networks during pregnancy may increase perceived anxiety levels about practical infant care after delivery. Building bridges between women, their families, and providers to provide specific types and amounts of support during pregnancy is crucial in reducing postpartum anxiety.
