Understanding Men's Engagement and Disengagement When Seeking Support for Mental Health

Summary: Men are less likely to utilize health care services compared with women, especially when it comes to mental health. Previous studies have focused on understanding effective strategies to promote men's engagement and why men may avoid help-seeking, but few studies exist about men's disengagement. This secondary analysis of data collected by Lived Experience Australia (LEA) aimed to gain better insight into the reasons men disengage from mental health services and what will help them reengage. The findings suggest strategies to prevent disengagement and emphasize the importance of community-based mental health services and peer workers in reengaging male consumers.

Close social relationships and loneliness: the role of subjective age

Summary: This study aims to evaluate the association between close social relationships and loneliness, as well as the moderating role of subjective age in this association. The results showed a negative relationship between the number of close social relationships and loneliness. Furthermore, the study found that subjective age moderates the relationship, with those having an older subjective age experiencing a weaker association between close social relationships and loneliness. Efforts to address loneliness in older adults should take into account their perceptions of aging.
