Work-Related Self-Efficacy and Illness Identity in Adults with Autism

Liron Lamash et al.

Summary: This study examines the autism identity of adults with ASD and the relationships to their self-reported work-related self-efficacy and quality of life. The findings indicate that acceptance feelings towards autism are significantly higher among individuals with ASD, negative feelings about living with autism are associated with lower work-related self-efficacy, and higher levels of enrichment feelings are related to a higher quality of life. These findings highlight the impact of illness identity on the work-related self-efficacy and quality of life among individuals with ASD.

Reflection in Theory and Reflection in Practice: An Exploration of the Gaps in Reflection Support among Personal Informatics Apps

Janghee Cho et al.

Summary: Personal informatics (PI) systems aim to support reflection, but the ways and timing of reflection are still not well-studied. This paper analyzes the interactive features of 123 commercial PI apps and finds uneven support for reflective practices. The lack of user-driven reflection, goal-setting and data configuration features, and consideration of wider implications may limit meaningful generation of insights. Based on the findings, the paper discusses misrepresentation of reflection in current PI tools, identifies gaps between theoretical research and interface features, and suggests ways to better support reflection.

Autistic Self-Advocacy and the Neurodiversity Movement: Implications for Autism Early Intervention Research and Practice

Kathy Leadbitter et al.

Summary: The growth of autistic self-advocacy and the neurodiversity movement has sparked new ethical, theoretical, and ideological debates within autism theory, research, and practice. Intervention stakeholders are urged to engage with autistic perspectives and the concept of neurodiversity, reframing effectiveness, developing tools for measuring autistic priorities, and forming partnerships with autistic individuals. Reflecting on intervention practices within a neurodiversity framework is crucial for promoting natural developmental processes, coping strategies, autonomy, and well-being.
