Genomic monitoring is superior to cytogenetics for clinical assessment of leukemia. A case of pediatric acute lymphoblastic leukemia demonstrates that a lesion underlying lethal end-stage myeloid disease could be detected by whole-genome sequencing years before it manifested cytogenetically.
