Full-scale computational fluid dynamics study on wind condition of the long-span Queensferry Crossing Bridge

Licheng Zhu et al.

Summary: For the first time, a full-scale bridge aerodynamic CFD study was conducted on the Queensferry Crossing in the UK. The aim was to accurately simulate the wind field around the bridge. The CFD predictions were validated with field data and demonstrated good potential for practical bridge aerodynamic studies.

Wind-Induced Phenomena in Long-Span Cable-Supported Bridges: A Comparative Review of Wind Tunnel Tests and Computational Fluid Dynamics Modelling

Yuxiang Zhang et al.

Summary: Engineers, architects, planners, and designers need to carefully consider the effects of wind on long-span bridges, with traditional wind tunnel tests and computational fluid dynamics simulations being common methods for analysis. This paper focuses on research regarding wind issues on long-span cable-supported bridges, including flutter, vortex-induced vibrations, and rain-wind-induced vibrations. The paper provides a state-of-the-art review on the use of wind tunnel tests and computational fluid dynamics modelling for analyzing wind effects on long-span bridges.

Experimental and numerical investigations on performance of reinforced concrete slabs under explosive-induced air-blast loading: A state-of-the-art review

S. M. Anas et al.

Summary: The rising fanaticism and rapid industrialization globally have made structures more vulnerable to direct threats generated from accidental and explosion-induced air-blast loads. This paper presents a comprehensive review of major publications addressing the blast response of reinforced concrete slabs, discussing various damage modes, parameters affecting spall damage, experimental investigations, numerical modeling, and techniques to improve blast resistance.

Effects of Secondary Elements on Vortex-Induced Vibration of a Streamlined Box Girder

Xingyu Chen et al.

Summary: Box girders have good aerodynamic characteristics, and this study focused on the vortex-induced vibration (VIV) of this girder type at large angles of attack. Improving the guardrail form and maintenance track position can enhance the VIV performance of box girders. Effective measures to increase VIV performance include enhancing secondary elements and adjusting the position of maintenance tracks.
