Differences in symptom experience among patients with systemic sclerosis: a cluster analytic approach to identifying subgroups

Susan L. Murphy et al.

Summary: We aimed to identify and characterize patient subgroups based on symptom experience in a large cohort of SSc patients from a single US academic medical center. An exploratory hierarchical agglomerative cluster analysis revealed three subgroups based on symptom severity: no/minimal, mild, and moderate. The mild symptoms subgroup mainly had pain, fatigue, and sleep disturbance, while the moderate symptoms subgroup was characterized by co-occurring pain, fatigue, sleep disturbance, depression, and anxiety.

Development and validation of a patient-reported outcome measure for systemic sclerosis: the EULAR Systemic Sclerosis Impact of Disease (ScleroID) questionnaire

Mike O. Becker et al.

Summary: The EULAR ScleroID, developed and validated with input from patient experts, is a novel, brief, disease-specific, patient-derived PROM for systemic sclerosis (SSc), suitable for research and clinical use. It showed strong correlation and reliability compared to existing comparators, with excellent sensitivity to change.

Prevalence, co-occurrence, and trajectories of pain, fatigue, depression, and anxiety in the year following multiple sclerosis diagnosis

Thomas R. Valentine et al.

Summary: The study found that pain, fatigue, depression, and anxiety are common in patients with multiple sclerosis, often co-occurring. Most patients experienced at least one clinically significant symptom within the year after diagnosis, indicating a significant impact on patients. Symptom severity showed fluctuations at the individual level, highlighting the need for timely screening and treatment.

Factors related to the resilience and mental health of adult cancer patients: a systematic review

Saori Tamura et al.

Summary: This study found that resilience in cancer patients is related to anxiety, depression, and quality of life, as well as factors such as age, gender, disease-related symptoms, self-efficacy, and hopefulness. Improving resilience is important for maintaining mental health and quality of life in cancer patients, and interventions targeting factors that reduce resilience may provide support for them.
