Kangaroo mother care for preterm or low birth weight infants: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Sindhu Sivanandan et al.

Summary: This systematic review provides updated evidence on the effects of kangaroo mother care (KMC) on mortality and other critical outcomes in preterm and low birth weight infants. The findings suggest that KMC reduces the risk of mortality and should be initiated within 24 hours of birth and provided for at least 8 hours daily.

What matters to families about the healthcare of preterm or low birth weight infants: A qualitative evidence synthesis

Lisa Hurt et al.

Summary: This study aims to understand what matters to families regarding the healthcare provided to preterm or LBW infants in hospital and the community. Through a comprehensive analysis of eligible studies, it was found that families care about positive outcomes for the child, active involvement in care, support for coping at home after discharge, emotional support, healthcare environment, information needs being met, logistical support available, and positive relationships with staff. These findings have implications for improving the experiences of parents.

Vitamin A supplementation in very-preterm or very-low-birth-weight infants to prevent morbidity and mortality: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized trials

Abhijeet A. Rakshasbhuvankar et al.

Summary: Vitamin A supplementation is beneficial for reducing the risk of BPD in very-preterm or VLBW infants, particularly in those with baseline vitamin A intake <1500 IU/kg·d(-1). Both enteral and parenteral routes of administration are effective, and supplementation does not have adverse effects on mortality or neurodevelopmental outcomes.
