The global economic policy uncertainty spillover analysis: In the background of COVID-19 pandemic

Yuqin Zhou et al.

Summary: This study constructs the spillover network of economic policy uncertainty (EPU) among specific countries using the spillover index approach and LASSO-VAR method. The network is then deconstructed into four blocks, and the effects of COVID-19 on EPU spillover between countries and blocks are analyzed. The study finds significant transnational contagion of EPU and time-varying spillover network. The impacts of COVID-19 on EPU spillover differ between different countries and blocks.

Policy uncertainty spillovers and financial risk contagion in the Asia-Pacific network

Yang LI et al.

Summary: The study investigates the impact of policy uncertainties on financial markets in the Asia-Pacific region using complex network analysis. Results show China as the center of the Asia-Pacific EPU network, with the US stock market being the most important intermediary. The US EPU and SPX indexes are identified as crucial sources of uncertainties in the financial spillover network, with correlations between EPU and financial networks decreasing during the US-China trade war and the COVID-19 outbreak increasing the density of the combined network.

Economic Policy Uncertainty Linkages among Asian Countries: Evidence from Threshold Cointegration Approach

Prince Mensah Osei et al.

Summary: This study utilizes the threshold cointegration methodology to analyze the long- and short-term dynamics of economic policy uncertainty between China, India, Japan, and Korea. The findings suggest asymmetric adjustment towards long-run equilibrium for the China-India and India-Japan pairs in the short run. Additionally, there are unidirectional causal relationships between some pairs while bidirectional causal relationships exist between others in both the long and short run.

Transitions in the cryptocurrency market during the COVID-19 pandemic: A network analysis

David Vidal-Tomas

Summary: Through network analysis, we identified the short-term impact of COVID-19 on the cryptocurrency market, resulting in a significant increase in market synchronisation, which gradually disappeared after the pandemic. Our analysis highlighted different market phases related to phenomena documented in existing literature.

Economic policy uncertainty: Persistence and cross-country linkages

Emmanuel Joel Aikins Abakah et al.

Summary: This paper provides new evidence on the stochastic behaviour of the EPU index in six major economies, showing that EPU is often a non-stationary series with long memory. There is very little evidence of cross-country linkages between the individual indices.
