Development of an optimized colorimetric RT-LAMP for SARS-CoV-2 assay with enhanced procedure controls for remote diagnostics

Bruna Winkert Raddatz et al.

Summary: The coronavirus pandemic increased the demand for molecular diagnostic tests. PCR is a commonly used technique but requires trained personnel, expensive equipment, and is time-consuming. LAMP, as an alternative, is similar to PCR in sensitivity and specificity but does not require sample purification or expensive equipment. In this study, we developed an optimized colorimetric RT-LAMP Point-of-Care test to diagnose COVID-19, which showed improved sensitivity through variables testing and the incorporation of mineral oil.

Colorimetric and fluorometric reverse transcription loop-mediated isothermal amplification (RT-LAMP) assay for diagnosis of SARS-CoV-2

Galyah Alhamid et al.

Summary: This study describes the analytical and clinical evaluation of an RT-LAMP assay for the detection of SARS-CoV-2. The assay, which targets multiple genes, demonstrates high sensitivity and specificity, providing results in approximately 20 minutes. Compared to traditional RT-PCR methods, RT-LAMP is faster, and the colorimetric detection offers the advantage of easy visual observation.
