Validation of an Embedded Motion-Capture and EMG Setup for the Analysis of Musculoskeletal Disorder Risks during Manhole Cover Handling

Summary: Musculoskeletal disorders are a growing problem in European workplaces. This study evaluates the use of inertial measurement units (IMU) in the workplace and compares them to a reference system. Results show good agreement between IMU and VICON systems for angle measurements. EMG and VAS are both valuable means to assess effort during tasks.

Evaluation of a New Simplified Inertial Sensor Method against Electrogoniometer for Measuring Wrist Motion in Occupational Studies

Repetitive and forceful movements of the hand as predictors of treatment for pain in the distal upper extremities

Ratings of Hand Activity and Force Levels among Women and Men Who Perform Identical Hand-Intensive Work Tasks

Summary: This study compared hand activity and force ratings in women and men performing identical hand-intensive work tasks. The results showed no significant gender differences in self-rated hand activity and observer-rated hand activity. However, there was a significant gender difference in observer-rated force, with women being rated higher. These findings suggest that observers may have biased estimations of force in women compared to men.

Relationships and Mechanisms Between Occupational Risk Factors and Distal Upper Extremity Disorders
