The activity space and the 15-minute neighborhood: An empirical study using big data in Qingdao, China

Lin Lin et al.

Summary: Daily travel distance has increased in urban China. The spatial layout of the 15-minute neighborhood, detailed in the 2018 standards, aims to promote local living and encourage walking and biking. This study examines the impact of these neighborhood attributes on activity space in Qingdao, China, using mobile network data. Findings suggest that not all 15-minute neighborhood attributes contribute to smaller activity space. Commercial retail services and green open spaces, which promote walking and physical activity, do not reduce activity space. However, the presence of public services such as schools, bus stops, neighborhood centers, and sports facilities within walking distance is associated with smaller activity space.

Improving the Spatial Accessibility of Community-Level Healthcare Service toward the '15-Minute City' Goal in China

Genxin Song et al.

Summary: This study aims to improve the spatial accessibility of healthcare services towards the goal of a '15-minute city'. Two optimization models, optimal supply-demand allocation and the capacitated p-medina problem, were used to redefine service areas and open new service centers. The results show that both methods are effective in reducing average travel time and increasing healthcare access for residents.
