A facile pyrolysis synthesis of Ni doped Ce2O3@CeO2/CN composites for adsorption removal of Congo red: Activation of carbon nitride structure

Richuan Rao et al.

Summary: Sheet-like Ni doped Ce2O3@CeO2/CN composite was synthesized through a facile and low-cost pyrolysis process by tuning the introduction of nickel. The activation of the shell-core Ce2O3@CeO2 structure resulted in nitrogen mainly being in the form of an N-(C3) structure in carbon nitrides, leading to excellent electronic conductivity and positive charges. The amount of nickel doping was found to be crucial, and increasing nickel content resulted in the preparation of negatively charged Ni doped CeO2/CN composite. The removal performance of the designed composites for anionic Congo red revealed that Ni doped Ce2O3@CeO2/CN composite exhibited the highest removal performance.

Strong adsorption of CV dye by Ni ferrite nanoparticles for waste water purification: Fits well the pseudo second order kinetic and Freundlich isotherm model

Simi Debnath et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the removal of crystal violet (CV) dye from water using prepared nickel ferrite nanoparticles (NiF-NPs) with an average size of 28 nm. The CV dye is toxic, carcinogenic, and mutagenic, and its persistence in the environment without degradation can greatly impact living organisms. The experimental data fits well with the Freundlich isotherm model, indicating multilayer coverage of NiF nanoparticles. The adsorption of CV dye is found to occur through physical-sorption process based on the Dubinin-Radushkevich isotherm model.

Environmental sustainability assessment of banana waste utilization into food packaging and liquid fertilizer

Margaux Castillo et al.

Summary: Banana pseudostems (BPS), a major waste fraction in banana farms, can be utilized to produce molded clamshells for food packaging and liquid Musa fertilizer by a patented technology. The life cycle assessment (LCA) reveals that the co-production of clamshell and fertilizer from BPS has a lower environmental impact compared to conventional processes. The use of renewable energy sources is recommended to further reduce the environmental impacts. Rating: 8 out of 10.

Pyrolyzed magnetic NiO/carbon-derived nanocomposite from a hierarchical nickel-based metal-organic framework with ultrahigh adsorption capacity

Negar Beigi et al.

Summary: In this study, a simple one-pot solvothermal approach has been used to create magnetic porous carbon nanocomposites obtained from a nickel-based metal-organic framework (Ni-MOF) for the adsorption of methyl orange (MO) dye. The derived carbons, known as CDM-700, CDM-800, and CDM-900, exhibited exceptional porosity and magnetic properties when pyrolyzed at different temperatures under a nitrogen atmosphere. Various analysis methods were employed to characterize the prepared powders. The maximum adsorption capacities of Ni-MOF, CDM-700, CDM-800, and CDM-900 for MO dye were found to be 307.38, 5976.35, 4992.39, and 2636.54 mg/g, respectively. The synthesized nanocomposite showed promising potential as a superadsorbent for dye removal from contaminated water.

Rice husk biochar-A novel engineered bio-based material for transforming groundwater-mediated fluoride cycling in natural environments

Rakesh Kumar et al.

Summary: This study investigated the performance feasibility of using biochar synthesized from agricultural waste (rice husk) to treat fluoride-contaminated surface and groundwater. The results showed that activated magnetic biochar (AMB) had higher adsorption capacity and achieved maximum fluoride (Fˉ) removal of 98.13% at pH 7. Additionally, biochar demonstrated efficient removal of fluoride in real-world problem-solving measures, with removal efficiencies of 91.20% and 95.61% for surface and groundwater, respectively, at a fluoride level of 10 mg L-1.
