Hybrid CaO@MgO@g-C3N4 nanostructure as a cost-effective sorbent for hazardous organic dyes activated by additives

Abdelbasset Bessadok-Jemai et al.

Summary: A novel CaO@MgO@g-C3N4 hybrid sorbent with a high surface area was successfully fabricated using a simple ultrasonication process in methanol media. The adsorption experiments showed that the removal of malachite green (MG) and Congo red (CR) dyes by CaO@MgO@g-C3N4 is pH-dependent, with maximum capacities achieved at pH = 7. The CaO@MgO@g-C3N4 nanopowder exhibited high adsorption capacities for MG and CR dyes, reaching 1182 and 1791 mg/g, respectively.

Natural, low-cost adsorbents for toxic Pb(II) ion sequestration from (waste) water: A state-of-the-art review

Peter Olusakin Oladoye

Summary: Amongst various wastewater treatment approaches, adsorption is a cost-effective and environmentally friendly method for removing Pb(II) ions from contaminated water. This review selected and evaluated about 227 research and review based publications on adsorption-based studies using different materials as adsorbents of Pb (II) ions. The results showed that unmodified and modified agro-based adsorbents exhibited the highest Pb(II) adsorption capacity compared to other types of adsorbents, indicating their potential for further exploration.

Cleanup of Cd II from water media using Y2O3@gC3N4 (YGCN) nanocomposite

O. Aldaghri et al.

Summary: In this study, a mesoporous nanomaterial Y(2)O(3)@gC(3)N(4) (YGCN) with excellent adsorption performance was successfully prepared using sonication method. The YGCN was then used as a nano-adsorbent to remove Cd II from water media. The results showed that the removal of Cd II onto the YGCN surface is pH-dependent, with optimal removal at pH = 7. The adsorption process followed a pseudo-second-order kinetics and Langmuir model. The maximum elimination capacity of YGCN was estimated to be 45.66 mg/g, indicating its effectiveness as an adsorbent for Cd II removal.
