Soybean Yield Loss Estimates Due to Diseases in the United States and Ontario, Canada, from 2015 to 2019

Summary: Yield losses in soybean due to plant diseases were estimated in the United States and Ontario, Canada from 2015 to 2019. Soybean cyst nematode caused the greatest loss, followed by seedling diseases, Sclerotinia stem rot, and sudden death syndrome. The average economic loss from all soybean diseases was US$45 per acre.

Summary: This study recovered 45 Diaporthe isolates from soybean fields affected by Diaporthe-associated diseases in eight U.S. states, identifying 10 different species of Diaporthe. Pathogenicity tests showed that different species of Diaporthe may cause seed decay and seedling necrosis in soybeans.
