The Concise Health Risk Tracking - Self-Report (CHRT-SR)-A measure of suicidal risk: Performance in adolescent outpatients

Karabi Nandy et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the psychometric properties of the Concise Health Risk Tracking Self-Report (CHRT-SR) in assessing suicidal behavior risk among adolescents. The results showed that the CHRT-SR9 is an effective brief self-report measure that is sensitive to changes in suicidality over time.

Psychometric evaluation of the 9-item Concise Health Risk Tracking-Self-Report (CHRT-SR9) (a measure of suicidal risk) in adolescent psychiatric outpatients in the Texas Youth Depression and Suicide Research Network (TX-YDSRN)

Karabi Nandy et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the psychometric properties of the 9-item Concise Health Risk Tracking SelfReport (CHRT-SR9) as a measure of suicidality in adolescent psychiatric outpatients. The CHRT-SR9 demonstrated excellent model fit and measurement invariance, with good reliability and validity. The findings suggest that CHRT-SR9 is a useful screening measure of suicidal risk in adolescent psychiatric outpatients. Rating: 8 out of 10.

Developing the Blueprint for Youth Suicide Prevention

Julie Gorzkowski Hamilton et al.

Summary: Suicide and suicidal behavior among youth has become a critical public health crisis, worsened by the COVID-19 pandemic. To address this issue, the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention developed the Blueprint for Youth Suicide Prevention, aiming to translate research into actionable strategies. Through collaborative meetings, cross-sectoral partnerships were established, resulting in key takeaways that emphasized the preventability of suicide, the importance of health equity, the need for individual and systems changes, the focus on resilience, and the significance of cross-sectoral partnerships.

Summary: American youth are seriously impacted by depression and suicide. The Texas Youth Depression and Suicide Research Network (TX-YDSRN) initiated a participant registry study to develop predictive models for treatment outcomes in youth with depression and/or suicidality. This report presents the baseline characteristics of the first 1000 participants, including age, ethnicity, and depression and anxiety scores.

Differential Predictors of Suicidal Ideation and Suicide Attempts: Internalizing Disorders and Substance Use in a Clinical Sample of Adolescents

Lauren M. Berny et al.

Summary: This study examined the ability of internalizing disorder severity, substance use frequency, and their interaction to differentiate adolescents who attempted suicide from those who only experienced suicidal ideation. The results showed that more severe symptoms of major depressive disorder (MDD) and generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) could differentiate between ideators and non-suicidal adolescents. However, internalizing disorder severity did not differ between ideators and attempters. Substance use frequency also did not differ between suicide risk groups. Instead, prior experiences of weapon violence victimization and sexual abuse were the largest differentiators between attempters and ideators.

Structural Racism and Suicide Prevention for Ethnoracially Minoritized Youth: A Conceptual Framework and Illustration Across Systems

Kiara Alvarez et al.

Summary: Research has shown significant disparities in suicide rates and access to mental health services among ethnoracially minoritized youth. Current suicide prevention strategies have not fully addressed how structural racism impacts risk, protection, and intervention for youth of color. In order to provide more culturally responsive mental health care, authors propose a framework to address structural racism in suicide prevention.

A Plausible Explanation of Increased Suicidal Behaviors Among Transgender Youth Based on the Interpersonal Theory of Suicide (IPTS): Case Series and Literature Review

Antonia Phillip et al.

Summary: This study examines the pathological basis of treatment-resistant suicidality in transgender youth using the theoretical framework of the interpersonal theory of suicide (IPTS). The findings suggest that thwarted belongingness and perceived burdensomeness are contributing factors to suicidal behavior among transgender youth, with the presence of both factors indicating the highest risk. The limited research on the etiology and explanations for the elevated risk of suicidal behavior in transgender youth highlights the need for further investigation of the triadic factor interactions of the IPTS model.

Psychometric properties of the Generalized Anxiety Disorder 7-item scale in youth: Screening in a primary care sample

Jennifer L. Hughes et al.

Summary: The GAD-7 scale is effective in screening for anxiety in adolescents, with a unidimensional structure and good psychometric properties. Items 1 and 2 are strongly associated with the total score, making them good choices for a 2-item screening tool. The scale demonstrates convergent validity with high correlations to other anxiety measures, and discriminant validity with low correlations to measures of other psychological states.
