Analyzing spatial and temporal evolution of groundwater salinization through Multivariate Statistical Analysis and Hydrogeochemical Facies Evolution-Diagram

Alessandro Parisi et al.

Summary: This study aims to highlight the dynamics of groundwater salinization in arid/semi-arid coastal aquifers by comparing the efficacy of statistical and hydrogeochemical methods. The results can help policymakers and stakeholders involved in groundwater management of coastal aquifers by providing a preliminary hazard map related to groundwater salinization processes.

Studies on water resources salinization along the Italian coast: 30 years of work

Micol Mastrocicco

Summary: The population density on the Italian coasts is twice the national average, with numerous urban, economic, and productive settlements. Recent climate change studies forecast impacts on the hydrologic cycle in the Mediterranean, leading to increasing stress on coastal water resources and potential salinization. This paper critically discusses the historical and geographical distribution of peer-review studies on water resource salinization along the Italian coasts.
