Summary: Historiography on French pastors has gone through distortions over the centuries, from being seen as victims of Louis XIV's arbitrary rule to being criticized as lacking vocation. Recent studies have provided a more nuanced understanding of this group, but there is still much research to be done. This contribution offers reflections on a typology of pastoral models.
