High-performance multi-response optimization of new nanocomposite coating formulation of zinc reinforced with calcium oxide nanoparticle synthesis from oyster shell via one-step electrodeposition approach

Sani Mohammed Adams et al.

Summary: The synthesis of new nanocomposite coatings of zinc reinforced with calcium oxide nanoparticles (CaOnp) from oyster shells was studied under different electrodeposition parameters. The calcium oxide nanoparticles (CaOnp) concentration, current density, deposition temperature, and deposition time were varied, while electrical conductivity, hardness values, and corrosion rate were measured. The experimental results were in good agreement with the model predictions. The optimized conditions for the deposition process were found to be 10g/l CaOnp, 80 degrees C deposition temperature, 1.5A/cm(2) current density, and 15 minutes deposition time. The smaller crystallite size of the deposited sample resulted in lower corrosion resistance and higher hardness values. It was concluded that waste oyster shells can be effectively used for enhancing the corrosion resistance and hardness values of mild steel through electrodeposition.

Graphene oxide/chitosan doped polysulfone membrane for the treatment of industrial wastewater

Ahmed T. Yasir et al.

Summary: Rapid urbanization and industrialization pose significant stress on fresh water sources, with discharge of industrial wastewater posing risks to public health and the environment. In this study, chitosan-functionalized graphene oxide (GO-CH) was incorporated into polysulfone (Psf) ultrafiltration membranes, resulting in improved membrane performance. The GO-CH/Psf membrane showed higher water flux, BSA rejection rate, and water flux recovery ratio, and lower BSA solution flux attenuation rate than pristine Psf membrane. Further testing with real industrial wastewater showed a 28% improvement in COD removal.

Influence of sizes of rubber particles in latex on mechanical properties of natural rubber filled with carbon black

Simin He et al.

Summary: The structures and properties of natural rubber obtained from small and large rubber particles in latex are different. This study investigates the properties of natural rubber/carbon black composites with different mass ratios of small and large rubber particles. The results show that the mechanical properties of the composites increase with the increase of large rubber particle content due to the presence of agglomerates in composites with small rubber particles.

Mechanical, thermal and optical properties of natural rubber films with different types of bifunctional aldehydes as curing agents

Rawiporn Promsung et al.

Summary: A new simple system for vulcanizing natural rubber latex at low temperature using different bifunctional aldehydes has been proposed. The study investigated the mechanical, thermal, and optical properties of the crosslinked rubber. The results showed that glutaraldehyde-cured rubber exhibited superior mechanical properties and phthaldialdehyde-cured rubber had higher transparency, making it suitable for developing sensor materials.

Nature of Carbon Black Reinforcement of Rubber: Perspective on the Original Polymer Nanocomposite

Christopher G. Robertson et al.

Summary: The addition of carbon black particles to elastomeric polymers is crucial for the successful industrial use of rubber in many applications, but the origin of stiffness enhancement in elastomers from incorporating nanometer-scale carbon black particles is still debated. Experimental findings suggest that heat treatment of carbon black can significantly reduce the filler reinforcement effect in rubber. Furthermore, various chemical modification approaches have been employed to improve polymer-filler interactions and reinforcement.
