The Concept of Ocean Sustainability in High School: Measuring the Ocean Literacy of Vocational High School Students in Indonesia

Summary: The study assessed the ocean literacy of maritime vocational high school students in grades 10-12 in Indonesia using propositional concept maps with different ocean-related conceptual sentences. The results showed that 11th and 12th graders had higher ocean literacy scores than 10th graders, and female students performed better than male students. The study highlights the importance of assessing ocean literacy and provides suggestions for teachers and high school students.

Summary: Ocean literacy is the understanding of the ocean's influence on human beings and vice versa. This study investigated the presence and frequency of occurrence of ocean literacy principles and concepts in Brazilian curricular documents. The results showed that Brazilian curricula address more ocean literacy contents than do other countries, but there is still room for improvement, especially in topics related to environmental risks in coastal areas.
