Gender-stratified hierarchical modeling of patient and physician determinants of antihypertensive treatment outcomes: pooled analysis of seven prospective real-world studies with 17,044 patients

Dina Hamarneh et al.

Summary: A pooled analysis of seven prospective real-world studies in Belgium on antihypertensive treatment with valsartan-centric regimens revealed that women and men experienced similar reductions in blood pressure over a 90-day period. Approximately a quarter of the variance in blood pressure values was attributed to a physician class effect. Both gender groups shared some patient- and physician-related determinants of blood pressure outcomes, although there were also gender-specific determinants.
