In order to improve the visibility of sea fog images of the unmanned surface vessel visual system, we present a novel defogging algorithm based on a fusion strategy. Main steps of the algorithm are as follows. First, the first input image of the fusion process is obtained via a simple linear transformation. Second, an improved high-boost filtering algorithm based on guided image filtering is proposed to obtain the second input image of the fusion process. Third, a simple fusion method is used to fuse the above two input images. The final defogging result is obtained by a simple white balance process. The experimental results show that our proposed algorithm not only greatly enhances the visibility of sea fog image, but also has high computational efficiency. (C) 2015 Elsevier B.V.
