The relationship between frailty and community-acquired pneumonia in older patients

Li-hua Zhao et al.

Summary: This study aimed to explore the relationship between frailty and community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) in older patients. The results showed that frailty scores were positively correlated with the severity of pneumonia, comorbidity index, and certain biomarkers. Frailty scores were also found to be an independent factor in predicting the outcome of older CAP patients.

Impact of anaemia and the effect of empagliflozin in heart failure with reduced ejection fraction: findings from EMPEROR-Reduced

Joao Pedro Ferreira et al.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of empagliflozin on haematocrit and anaemia in patients with heart failure and reduced ejection fraction. It found that anaemia is associated with poor outcomes, and empagliflozin can reduce the risk of new-onset anaemia and improve heart failure and kidney outcomes, regardless of the baseline anaemia status.

A new haematological model for the diagnosis and prognosis of severe community-acquired pneumonia: a single-center retrospective study

Xiaohe Zheng et al.

Summary: This study aims to establish a new haematological model and explore its clinical value in the diagnosis and prognosis of severe community-acquired pneumonia (sCAP). The results show that the new model has good diagnostic efficacy for sCAP and can also be used for survival prognostic evaluations.

Diagnostic and Prognostic Value of Lung Ultrasound B-Lines in Acute Heart Failure With Concomitant Pneumonia

Matteo Mazzola et al.

Summary: The study found that assessing antero-lateral B-lines alone is sufficient for diagnosing, monitoring pulmonary congestion, and prognostic stratification in acute heart failure patients, regardless of concomitant pneumonia.

Incidence and Outcomes of Pneumonia in Patients With Heart Failure

Li Shen et al.

Summary: The study compared pneumonia incidence and outcomes in heart failure patients with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) and preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF). The incidence of pneumonia was found to be high in HF patients, particularly in those with HFpEF, at around 3 times the expected rate. A first episode of pneumonia was associated with a 4-fold higher mortality rate.
