Article Production and Characterization of a β-Cyclodextrin Inclusion Complex with Platonia insignis Seed Extract as a Proposal for a Gastroprotective System

Juliana Lima Nascimento et al.

Summary: Bacuri, a native plant of Brazil, has antioxidant activity against free radicals. In this study, an inclusion complex of beta-cyclodextrin (beta-CD) with the hexanic extract of bacuri seeds (BSHE) was produced, characterized and evaluated for its gastroprotective effect. The inclusion complex showed enhanced gastroprotective activity, indicating the potential use of this formulation in the treatment of peptic ulcers.

Antileishmania and immunomodulatory potential of cashew nut shell liquid and cardanol

Iuliana Marjory Martins Ribeiro et al.

Summary: Conventional treatments for leishmaniasis have limitations, and natural products like cashew nut shell liquid (CNSL) and cardanol (CN) are being investigated as potential alternatives. This study found that both CNSL and CN showed antileishmanial effects and cytotoxicity, with CN demonstrating stronger toxicity. They also exhibited immunomodulatory activities, enhancing phagocytic capacity and lysosomal volume. Further research is needed to evaluate these substances in vivo.

Effects of ω-3 PUFA-Rich Oil Supplementation on Cardiovascular Morphology and Aortic Vascular Reactivity of Adult Male Rats Submitted to an Hypercholesterolemic Diet

Mariely Mendes Furtado et al.

Summary: Processed and ultraprocessed foods increase the risk of obesity, diabetes, and atherosclerosis. This study investigated the effects of omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) supplementation on liver function, lipid profile, and cardiovascular health in hypercholesterolemic rats. The results showed that omega-3 PUFA supplementation improved liver function, preserved heart and aortic morphology, and increased vasodilator responsiveness, suggesting its potential therapeutic use in reducing atherosclerosis-related morbidity and mortality.
