[68 Ga]Ga-FAPI uptake correlates with the state of chronic kidney disease

Patrick Conen et al.

Summary: In this retrospective study, the diagnostic value of three different radiotracers for the noninvasive prediction of kidney fibrosis was analyzed. The results showed a significant negative correlation between renal parenchymal [(68) Ga]Ga-FAPI uptake and glomerular filtration rate (GFR), highlighting the potential value of [(68) Ga]Ga-FAPI for the noninvasive evaluation of kidney fibrosis.

[68Ga]Ga-FAPI-46 PET for non-invasive detection of pulmonary fibrosis disease activity

Zachary T. Rosenkrans et al.

Summary: The utility of fibroblast activation protein inhibitor for positron emission tomography (FAPI PET) imaging in monitoring lung fibrosis activity was determined in a mouse model. FAPI PET was able to detect the presence and activity of lung fibrogenesis, providing a promising tool for assessing disease activity and evaluating therapeutic interventions.

Manuel Roehrich et al.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the imaging properties of static and dynamic fibroblast activation protein (FAP) inhibitor (FAPI) PET/CT in various types of fibrosing interstitial lung diseases (fILDs) and lung cancer (LC). The results showed that Ga-68-FAPI PET/CT imaging had high uptake and good imaging characteristics for fILD and LC.

Properties and Functions of Fibroblasts and Myofibroblasts in Myocardial Infarction

Harikrishnan Venugopal et al.

Summary: This review discusses the mechanisms, roles, and fate of fibroblasts in the infarcted heart. Following a myocardial infarction, fibroblasts undergo phenotypic transitions and contribute to inflammatory, reparative, and angiogenic responses. They form collagen-based scars to protect the infarcted ventricle and may also stimulate angiogenesis. Prolonged activation of fibroblasts may contribute to adverse remodeling and heart failure.

Noninvasive Monitoring of Reparative Fibrosis after Myocardial Infarction in Rats Using 68Ga-FAPI-04 PET/CT

Pengxin Qiao et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the feasibility of using Ga-68-FAPI-04 PET to monitor reparative fibrosis and reactive fibrosis after myocardial infarction (MI). The results showed that Ga-68-FAPI-04 PET is effective in monitoring activated fibroblasts in the early stage post-MI and may be helpful for evaluating the degree of reparative fibrosis.

Left Ventricular Remodeling after Myocardial Infarction: From Physiopathology to Treatment

Sabina Andreea Leanca et al.

Summary: Myocardial infarction is the most common cause of death and morbidity worldwide. It is mainly caused by thrombotic occlusion in the coronary circulation. Current therapies aim to restore coronary flow and counteract neurohormonal activation, but myocardial ischemia still leads to left ventricular remodeling and eventually heart failure.

Enhancing Clinical Diagnosis for Patients With Persistent Pulmonary Abnormalities After COVID-19 Infection The Potential Benefit of 68Ga-FAPI PET/CT

Anna Sviridenko et al.

Summary: This study explores the potential diagnostic benefit of PET/CT in identifying the underlying inflammatory or fibrotic repair processes in COVID-19 patients with prolonged lung abnormalities. The results show that Ga-68-FAPI-46 PET/CT had clear positivity in six pulmonary impaired patients, while F-18-FDG showed reduced glucose avidity compared to the control group.

Anna-Maria Hoffmann-Vold et al.

Summary: This study utilized data from the European Scleroderma Trials And Research (EUSTAR) database to analyze the disease course, progression patterns, and predictive factors for progressive interstitial lung disease (ILD) in patients with systemic sclerosis-associated ILD (SSc-ILD). The results showed that male sex, higher modified Rodnan skin score, and reflux/dysphagia symptoms were the strongest predictive factors for forced vital capacity (FVC) decline over a 5-year period in SSc-ILD patients.

Interrelation Between Fibroblasts and T Cells in Fibrosing Interstitial Lung Diseases

Yunxin Lai et al.

Summary: Interstitial lung diseases (ILDs) are characterized by inflammation and fibrosis of the pulmonary interstitium, with immune cells and stromal cells playing crucial roles in the pathogenesis. Fibroblasts secrete extracellular matrix and cytokines, while T cells mediate adaptive immunity, inflammation, and autoimmune tissue destruction in ILDs patients. Understanding the interplay between fibroblasts and T cells can lead to better therapeutic design for ILDs.
