Current design guidelines' streetscape improvement for visual perception and walkability: A case study of Sejong City, Republic of Korea

Jeeun Lee et al.

Summary: This study investigates the design guidelines for streetscapes and their impact on visual variety. It evaluates the streetscape features of Sejong City and identifies three main reasons for the visual monotony in the streets compared to ordinary streets. These reasons include the inability to restrict large-scale buildings, the focus on consistent street walls, and the application of uniform standards leading to repetitive architecture.

The therapeutic look up: Stress reduction and attention restoration vary according to the sky-leaf-trunk (SLT) ratio in canopy landscapes

Wei Lin et al.

Summary: People often enjoy relaxing in forests, which have therapeutic potential. This study explored the visual elements of canopy landscapes using the sky-leaf-trunk (SLT) ratio. The results showed that images with low trunk proportions and moderate sky and leaf proportions facilitated stress reduction and attention recovery. Images with moderate leaf proportions and low trunk proportions were most preferred. The study provides insights for the planning and design of forest spaces and the visual evaluation of green spaces.

EEG modulation by different transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) montages: a randomized double-blind sham-control mechanistic pilot trial in healthy participants

Mirret El-Hagrassy et al.

Summary: Comparing circular vs. rectangular electrodes for left DLPFC tDCS, higher EEG power spectral density was found in the circular electrode group, especially in the frontal area. Differences in PSD across different bands were observed when comparing right DLPFC and right shoulder reference locations.
