Modelling the relationship between modular construction adoption and critical success factors for residential projects in developing countries

Summary: Modular construction (MC) is a greener and more sustainable construction method that is mandatory for assessing project sustainability. However, its adoption is limited in developing countries. This study presents a model that analyzes the relationship between critical success factors (CSFs), enablers, and modular construction adoption (MCA) in order to promote the use of MC in developing countries. The findings show that CSFs have a significant impact on MCA, with a moderate effect of 62.1%.

Construction in the digital age: exploring the benefits of digital technologies

Summary: The purpose of this article is to identify and evaluate the benefits of adopting digital technologies (DTs) in the Nigerian construction industry. A literature review was conducted to identify the benefits of implementing DTs, and a questionnaire survey was formulated to collect data from construction professionals. The top five significant benefits of adopting DTs were increased operational efficiency, increased productivity, increased speed of executing tasks, seamless working methodology, and accurate documentation of data. The findings of this study have practical implications for construction organizations in Nigeria and similar countries seeking digital transformation.

Robotics and automation for sustainable construction: microscoping the barriers to implementation

Summary: This study assesses the barriers hindering the adoption of robotics and automation systems in the Nigerian construction industry. Through literature review and questionnaire survey, the top five barriers identified are fragmented construction process, resistance by workers and unions, hesitation to adopt innovation, lack of capacity and expertise, and lack of support from top-level managers. These barriers are categorized into industry, human, economic, and technical-related barriers through factor analysis. This study contributes to the limited existing knowledge by identifying and evaluating challenges in implementing robotics and automation systems in the Nigerian construction industry.

Understanding the key takeaway of construction robots towards construction automation

The findings reveal that UAV usage is rare in the country and most organisations are uncertain about employing UAVs for their projects. Factors such as social influence, performance expectancy, effort expectancy, and facilitating conditions impact an organisation's intention to adopt UAVs. The study also highlights the significance of resistance to use and perceived risk in determining an organisation's behavioural intention.
