Random parameters modeling of charging-power demand for the optimal location of electric vehicle charge facilities

Mohammad M. Hamed et al.

Summary: This study aims to assess the feasibility of establishing EV charging facilities based on different parameters, including charging technologies, charging power demand, and potential locations. The Maximum Covering Location Model is used to optimize the charging demand, and a random parameters approach is adopted to model the demand for charging power in each district. A linear mixed-integer problem is formulated to optimize the location and coverage of charging stations. This study provides a novel perspective on charging demand modeling and guides stakeholders and policymakers in improving the adoption of EVs.

Identifying the Factors Contributing to Freeway Crash Severity Based on Discrete Choice Models

Wen Cheng et al.

Summary: In order to mitigate the losses caused by traffic accidents on freeways, discrete choice models were constructed to quantitatively analyze the significance and magnitude of the impact of multiple factors on crash severity. The study found that 11 factors have significant consequences, including mountainous road sections, female drivers, drivers with 2- years or less of driving experience, large vehicles being responsible, and vehicles not going straight. Traffic management departments can develop focused proposals for improvement based on these variations.

Modelling braking behaviour of distracted young drivers in car-following interactions: A grouped random parameters duration model with heterogeneity-in-means

Yasir Ali et al.

Summary: This study investigates and compares the effects of using mobile phones whilst driving on braking behaviour. The results show that drivers using mobile phones tend to brake slower, which increases the risk of rear-end collisions. Additionally, drivers with provisional licences exhibit slower braking speeds and are more susceptible to distractions caused by mobile phones.

Accounting for unobserved heterogeneity and spatial instability in the analysis of crash injury-severity at highway-rail grade crossings: A random parameters with heterogeneity in the means and variances approach

Sheikh Shahriar Ahmed et al.

Summary: This study analyzes the injury-severity outcomes of highway-rail grade crossing crashes using data from Texas and California. The results indicate that the factors affecting injury severity are not spatially stable across the two states, highlighting the importance of accounting for unobserved heterogeneity and spatial instability in the analysis of these crashes.

Grouped Random Parameters Negative Binomial-Lindley for accounting unobserved heterogeneity in crash data with preponderant zero observations

A. S. M. Mohaiminul Islam et al.

Summary: This paper investigates statistical models for crash data analysis, including the Negative Binomial-Lindley (NB-L) model and the grouped random parameters negative binomial-Lindley (G-RPNB-L) model. The G-RPNB-L model is proposed to analyze crash data with a large number of zero observations and shows superior performance compared to other models.

A temporal instability analysis of environmental factors affecting accident occurrences during snow events: The random parameters hazard-based duration model with means and variances heterogeneity

Jiajun Pang et al.

Summary: This paper introduces a novel measure for evaluating motor vehicle safety during snowfalls by measuring the time between the start of a snowfall and the occurrence of a motor vehicle accident. The authors use detailed accident information from 2017 to 2020 in New York to explore the impact of different factors on this time period. The findings reveal several factors that affect the timing of accidents during snowfalls.

A deep learning based traffic crash severity prediction framework

Md Adilur Rahim et al.

Summary: This paper introduces a novel deep learning-based approach with a customized f1-loss function to predict the severity of traffic crashes. By transforming features/variables into images and using a CNN deep learning algorithm to optimize the model for precision and recall, the performance in predicting fatal and injury crashes has been significantly improved.

The role of gender and temporal instability in driver-injury severities in crashes caused by speeds too fast for conditions

Summary: The impact of inappropriate speed adjustment on crash injury severity is not well understood, particularly in rainy conditions. Significant differences were found between male and female drivers in terms of injury severity probabilities, with some variables showing consistent effects over time.
