Does passion matter for team innovation? The conditional indirect effects of team harmonious versus obsessive passion via team reflexivity

Xin Wei et al.

Summary: This research investigates how team members' passion for innovation contributes to team innovation. It suggests that collective passion influences team innovation by shaping team reflexivity, a crucial process for members to reflect collectively and adjust their efforts towards achieving innovation goals. The impact of collective passion on team innovation, mediated by team reflexivity, depends on the type and diversity of passion. Results from two field studies support the differential effects of compiled harmonious passion (HP) and obsessive passion (OP). Furthermore, the effect of collective HP on team reflexivity and its indirect impact on team innovation were less positive with higher HP diversity, while the effect of collective OP on team reflexivity and its indirect impact on team innovation were less negative with higher OP diversity. This research has significant theoretical and practical implications for the study of passion, teams, and team innovation.

A systematic framework of creative metacognition

Izabela Lebuda et al.

Summary: Creative cognition involves both cognitive processes directly serving the main task objective and metacognitive processes that monitor and regulate cognition adaptively. However, the theoretical conceptualization of creative metacognition has been ambiguous, leading to limited research in this area. This article proposes a systematic framework of creative metacognition (CMC) that builds on recent advancements in metacognition theory and extends them to address the specific requirements of creative cognition. The CMC framework consists of dynamic components of monitoring and control, as well as a static component of metacognitive knowledge, applied to task, performance, and responses. The article describes the function of these metacognitive components in the creative process, provides evidence supporting their role, and discusses their relationship with related constructs such as creative self-beliefs. The article also emphasizes the dynamic interplay of metacognitive processes across task performance and identifies future research directions.

Grit and Academic Achievement: A Comparative Cross-Cultural Meta-Analysis

Kelly Ka Lai Lam et al.

Summary: This review analyzed 137 studies with 156 dependent samples to explore the relationship between grit and academic achievement. Results showed that the correlations between overall grit level and academic achievement were generally weak to moderate, with perseverance of effort having a stronger correlation with achievement than consistency of interest. Cross-cultural analysis revealed that the associations between overall grit/2 facets and academic achievement did not differ between individualism-collectivism societies. No significant moderators were found in the overall grit-achievement link or consistency of interest-achievement link after controlling for various factors. The study also found a stronger association between perseverance of effort and academic achievement in nonstandardized measures compared to standardized measures.
