As time went by-why is the long wave so long?

Francisco Louca

Summary: This article discusses the period of mediocre growth in the world economy since the end of the expansionary period after World War II, with the view that this period has been influenced by an unprecedented structural crisis. The author argues that the duration of this transition can be explained by the difficult process of replacing successful institutional settings, involving the readjustment of social institutions to adapt to the mismatch between the capabilities of the Emerging Techno-economic paradigm and the socio-institutional framework.
