Exploring the acceptance of connected and automated vehicles: Focus group discussions with experts and non-experts in transport

Amandine Duboz et al.

Summary: The successful deployment of connected and automated vehicles (CAVs) relies heavily on public opinion. User expectations and concerns play a crucial role in driving market acceptance and adoption of these technologies. A study conducted in Italy, Germany, and Spain revealed that while CAVs offer benefits such as increased safety and improved travel experience, concerns about privacy, accident responsibility, and maintenance costs exist. Stakeholders need to carefully consider these concerns as they may hinder the acceptance of CAVs.

Use of app-based ridehailing services and conventional taxicabs by adults with disabilities

Abigail L. Cochran et al.

Summary: People with disabilities use app-based ridehailing services at a much lower rate compared to those without disabilities, partly due to factors such as age, income, and location. Even after controlling for these factors, having a disability still predicts lower usage of app-based ridehailing, indicating potential accessibility issues for people with disabilities in these new services.

Autonomous vehicles and paratransit: Examining the protective framework of the Americans with Disabilities Act

Jacqueline Kuzio

Summary: The autonomous vehicle domain holds enormous potential for increased efficiency, safety, environmental benefits, and a more equitable transportation system. However, realizing these benefits requires careful consideration of design, planning, policy, and implementation frameworks. Attention needs to be paid to paratransit services for users with disabilities and ensuring compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) regulations in the autonomous future.
