The economic theory of qualitative green growth

Frank J. Fabozzi et al.

Summary: As climate changes and the impact of human activity on the environment become more prominent, advanced economies are increasingly urged to take action. Green growth, advocated by organizations such as the OECD, emphasizes the use of science and technology to achieve economic growth without harming the environment. However, the practical feasibility of implementing green growth is questioned due to unpredictable technological advances. This paper argues that a change in the concept of growth, accepting qualitative growth as true growth, is needed. Furthermore, there is a need to revise economic theory, as mainstream economics only recognizes quantitative growth and may label a qualitatively growing healthy economy as in recession.

Response Surface Regressions for Critical Value Bounds and Approximate p-values in Equilibrium Correction Models

Sebastian Kripfganz et al.

Summary: This study examines the popular 'bounds test' for level relationship existence in conditional equilibrium correction models. By estimating response surface models based on a large number of simulated statistics, the study improves and extends critical values for different sample sizes and lag orders. Results suggest that in small samples, the bounds test may be significantly oversized with the use of asymptotic critical values.

Development strategy, resource misallocation and economic performance

Binkai Chen et al.

Summary: This paper provides a consistent explanation for the distinct economic performance among Less Developed Countries (LDCs) from the perspective of government development strategy. It argues that a government's heavy-industry-oriented development strategy leads to a larger capital-to-output ratio and lower per-capita output, contradicting standard neoclassical growth theory. The study finds that a government's emphasis on heavy-industry-oriented strategy results in greater misallocation of resources and lower Total Factor Productivity (TFP).

Can green industrial policy improve total factor productivity? Firm-level evidence from China

Yijun Zhang et al.

Summary: The study showed that tax incentives for green development can improve mining companies' total factor productivity, with a more significant impact on private companies and companies in central and western China. There is a two-way causal relationship between tax incentives and TFP, and tax incentives improve TFP through technological progress.
