Bayesian optimization of hyperparameters from noisy marginal likelihood estimates

Oskar Gustafsson et al.

Summary: Bayesian models involve hyperparameters determined by maximizing the marginal likelihood. Bayesian optimization is an iterative method using Gaussian process posterior. We propose a new Bayesian optimization framework for situations where the user controls the computational effort and precision of function evaluations.

Bayesian forecast combination using time-varying features

Li Li et al.

Summary: In this research, a new framework for density forecast combination is proposed, where time-varying weights are constructed based on time-varying features. The optimal forecast combination is determined using Bayesian log predictive scores and time series features from historical information. The framework offers better interpretability compared to other black-box forecasting combination schemes. The application of the framework to stock market data and M3 competition data demonstrates improved accuracy in both point and density forecasts through a simple maximum-a-posteriori scheme and Bayesian variable selection.

Bayesian Hierarchical Stacking: Some Models Are (Somewhere) Useful*

Yuling Yao et al.

Summary: This article introduces a model averaging technique called Stacking, which achieves optimal predictions through linear averaging of different models. The article also proposes an improvement method using a hierarchical model and extends Stacking to Bayesian hierarchical stacking. Experimental results demonstrate that this method can achieve better performance on different types of data.

Mixed-frequency Bayesian predictive synthesis for economic nowcasting

Kenichiro McAlinn

Summary: A novel framework for dynamic modeling of mixed-frequency data using Bayesian predictive synthesis is proposed. The framework considers data reported at different frequencies as latent factors, dynamically synthesizing and updating them to produce coherent forecast distributions. The study shows improved performance and timely insights for decision-making by incorporating information during a quarter and sequentially updating it.
