From austerity-conditionality towards a new investment-led growth strategy: Social Europe after the Recovery and Resilience Facility

Summary: By providing financial resources conditional to certain requirements, the Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF) has created new opportunities for collaboration and the production of social policies. This article examines how the RRF has influenced national social policy choices and the interaction between the European Commission and national governments. The findings show that while the RRF has only partially contributed to compliance with social recommendations, it has expedited the implementation of welfare reforms, particularly in countries with limited fiscal capacity.

Explaining the deadlock of the European social dialogue: negotiating in the shadow of hierarchy

This article applies game theoretical approach to study the ESD and finds that the likelihood of binding agreements depends on the shadow of hierarchy, the complexity of the issue, and reputational risks of the social partners.
