Can long-term regular physical activity improve health outcomes among adults with asthma-evidence from a systematic review and Bayesian meta-analysis

Shengqiao Shi et al.

Summary: According to the systematic review and meta-analysis, regular physical activity has positive effects on quality of life, pulmonary function, and maximal oxygen consumption in adults with asthma. Long-term high-level physical activity is associated with a lower risk of developing asthma.

Identification of asthma phenotypes based on extrapulmonary treatable traits

Patricia Duarte Freitas et al.

Summary: This study identified and characterised clusters of participants with moderate-to-severe asthma based on clinical, functional, anthropometric, and psychological characteristics. The clusters ranged from controlled asthma with physical activity to very uncontrolled asthma with physical inactivity, obesity, and anxiety and/or depression symptoms. Sedentary time, female sex, and anxiety symptoms were associated with increased exacerbation risk, while physical activity showed a protective factor for hospitalisation. Asthma control was associated with sex, exacerbation occurrence, physical activity, and health status. Physical inactivity, obesity, and symptoms of anxiety or depression were associated with worse asthma outcomes and closely linked to asthma control.

A Behavior Change Intervention Aimed at Increasing Physical Activity Improves Clinical Control in Adults With Asthma A Randomized Controlled Trial

Patricia D. Freitas et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that a behavior change intervention aimed at increasing physical activity improves asthma control, increases daily step count, enhances sleep efficiency, and reduces sedentary time. However, there was no significant difference observed in health-related quality of life between the intervention group and control group.
