Aeromonas hydrophila ST251 and Aeromonas dhakensis are major emerging pathogens of striped catfish in Vietnam

Kerry L. Bartie et al.

Summary: This study characterized Aeromonas hydrophila strains associated with mortalities in striped catfish culture in Vietnam and proposed the development of more effective vaccines. It identified ST656 and ST251 serotypes as the prevalent strains, with the latter being a hypervirulent lineage causing concern in global aquaculture. The study also discovered shared antibiotic resistance genes and emphasized the need to reduce antibiotic use.

The prevalence, putative virulence genes and antibiotic resistance profiles of Aeromonas spp. isolated from cultured freshwater fishes in peninsular Malaysia

Mohamad Azzam-Sayuti et al.

Summary: The study characterized a large collection of Aeromonas species from fish farms in Peninsular Malaysia, identifying A. dhakensis as the predominant species. Half of the isolates carried at least half of the virulence genes tested and displayed resistance to multiple antibiotics, highlighting the need for vigilance in the freshwater fish industry.

Summary: This study analyzed Aeromonas species infection in the Australian population and found that it is the third most common bacterial pathogen in gastroenteritis, correlated with age and gender, with the main species being veronii, caviae, and hydrophila.
