Serena Xodo et al.

Summary: This meta-analysis aims to evaluate the success rate of trial of labor in monochorionic diamniotic pregnancies and its impact on neonatal outcomes. Seventeen studies were analyzed, and the results showed that trial of labor is successful in most cases and has minimal impact on neonatal outcomes.

Growth patterns of monochorionic twin pregnancy complicated by Type-III selective fetal growth restriction

S. Shinar et al.

Normalization of umbilical artery Doppler is associated with improved fetal growth of the smaller twin.

Incidence and outcome of prenatal brain abnormality in twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome: systematic review and meta-analysis

F. G. Sileo et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the incidence of antenatally diagnosed brain abnormality in twin pregnancies complicated by twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS) and quantified the perinatal mortality, morbidity, and long-term neurodevelopmental outcome of these fetuses. The results showed that the overall incidence of antenatally diagnosed fetal brain abnormality in twin pregnancies complicated by TTTS treated with laser surgery is around 2%, mainly ischemic in nature. More than half of the cases chose termination of pregnancy.

Prediction of fetal death in monochorionic twin pregnancies complicated by Type-III selective fetal growth restriction

T. Van Mieghem et al.

Summary: This study aimed to identify predictors of fetal death in monochorionic diamniotic twin pregnancies complicated by Type-III selective fetal growth restriction (sFGR). The results showed that earlier diagnosis, oligohydramnios in the smaller twin, deterioration in umbilical artery Doppler flow, and larger fetal weight discordance were associated with an increased risk of fetal death. The CART model identified three risk groups. These findings are of importance for improving pregnancy outcomes in this high-risk population.

Solomon technique vs selective fetoscopic laser photocoagulation for twin-twin transfusion syndrome: systematic review and meta-analysis of maternal and perinatal outcomes

F. D'Antonio et al.

Summary: Monochorionic twin pregnancies complicated by twin-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS) treated with the Solomon technique have a significantly higher survival rate and lower recurrence rate of TTTS, but are associated with an increased risk of placental abruption and earlier gestational age at delivery compared to those treated with selective fetoscopic laser photocoagulation (SFLP).

Monochorionic diamniotic twin pregnancies

Liesbeth Lewi

Summary: About 1 in 5 twin pregnancies are monochorionic diamniotic, which can lead to transfusion imbalances and other complications. Fetoscopic laser coagulation is used to address these imbalances. In addition, structural anomalies are more common in monochorionic twins while chromosomal anomalies are less common.

Monochorionic monoamniotic twin pregnancies

Tim Van Mieghem et al.

Summary: Monoamniotic twin pregnancies are rare and have a higher incidence of complications and lower survival rate. Early anatomy screening is recommended to detect fetal anomalies. Causes of fetal death include fetal anomalies and twin-twin transfusion syndrome. After viability, closer fetal surveillance is advised to reduce the risk of in utero death. If uncomplicated, delivery should occur at 33 to 34 weeks' gestation.

Summary: In this study of laser surgery for twin-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS), factors such as gestational age, cervical length, abnormal umbilical artery Doppler, and weight discordance were found to be key predictors of twin demise. Parents can receive personalized information about each fetus's survival based on preoperative and delivery variables. Short cervix and premature delivery significantly contribute to mortality in TTTS cases.

Summary: The study evaluated left myocardial performance index (MPI) and its time intervals in monochorionic diamniotic (MCDA) twin pairs complicated by selective fetal growth restriction (sFGR). Results showed a differential pattern of MPI time intervals in MCDA twins with sFGR type II and III. All twins had echocardiographic signs of pressure/volume overload, except the smaller twin type III with shorter systolic times probably reflecting reduced volume load.
