Risk of Covid-19 Severe Outcomes and Mortality in Migrants and Ethnic Minorities Compared to the General Population in the European WHO Region: a Systematic Review

Elena Mazzalai et al.

Summary: The Covid-19 pandemic has disproportionately affected migrants and ethnic minorities (MEMs) due to socio-economic disadvantages, legal barriers, administrative issues, and language barriers. This study aimed to examine the impact of Covid-19 on MEMs compared to the general population in terms of severe outcomes. A systematic review of studies published between 01/01/2020 and 19/03/2021 in the WHO European Region was conducted. Among the included studies, there was a higher risk of hospitalization, ICU admission, and mortality for MEMs compared to the white and/or native population.

Clinical outcomes and risk factors for COVID-19 among migrant populations in high-income countries: A systematic review

Sally E. Hayward et al.

Summary: Migrants in high-income countries are at increased risk of exposure to and infection with COVID-19, with disproportionate representation among cases and specific predisposing risk factors.
