Assessing Progress Towards SDGs Implementation Using Multiple Reference Point Based Multicriteria Methods: The Case Study of the European Countries

Summary: This study applies multi-criteria analysis to assess the sustainability performance of the 28 pre-Brexit European Union member states based on the UN 2030 Agenda. The results indicate that Nordic countries perform well in global sustainability, while Eastern European countries, particularly Romania, Bulgaria, and Greece, have lower levels of sustainability. Additionally, lower-ranking countries face difficulties in social and economic sustainability, whereas countries with overall good conditions perform poorly in the environmental dimension.

Economic sustainable development goals: Assessments and perspectives in Europe

Measuring Progress towards Sustainability in the European Union within the 2030 Agenda Framework

Summary: The adoption of the 2030 Agenda and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) has brought back the challenge of efficiently addressing economic, environmental, and social development goals. This study proposes a novel composite indicator approach to assess sustainability performance and evaluate progress towards the SDGs. The results from applying this approach to the evaluation of the SDGs in the EU27 from 2010 to 2020 using the Eurostat SDG dataset suggest that all member states have made favorable progress, with decreasing differences between countries.

Measuring the environmental sustainability of 2030 Agenda implementation in EU countries: How do different assessment methods affect results?
