Conflicting roles of researchers in sustainability transitions: balancing action and reflection

Ellen Bulten et al.

Summary: Process-oriented transdisciplinary research is regarded as a promising approach for promoting sustainability transitions, but researchers adopting new participatory roles may encounter conflicts with their traditional academic roles. Tensions between these roles stem from self-perception, expectations from partners and institutions, and societal beliefs about scientific knowledge. This study enhances understanding of the interactions and tensions between researchers' roles in transdisciplinary research.
