A system dynamics simulation model for water conflicts in the Zhanghe River Basin, China

Liang Yuan et al.

Summary: This study presents a model to simulate the dynamics of water demand, water supply, and the instability of water allocation schemes at the national river basin scale during water scarcity. The case study of Zhanghe River Basin in China demonstrates the optimized solution that considers the socioeconomic-environmental dynamics of stakeholders in water allocation.

Development of multidimensional water poverty in the Yangtze River Economic Belt, China

Liang Yuan et al.

Summary: Water, as a fundamental natural and strategic resource, plays a crucial role in the sustainable development of economies and societies. However, due to various factors, water poverty is increasing in certain parts of the world. This paper introduces a multidimensional framework for water poverty assessment and utilizes measurement models and spatial correlation analysis tools to identify the factors and spatial effects of water poverty.

Compilation of Water Resource Balance Sheets under Unified Accounting of Water Quantity and Quality, a Case Study of Hubei Province

Liang Yuan et al.

Summary: This article discusses the problems caused by traditional water resource development and utilization, as well as the policy issues in China that have led to a water crisis. The article proposes a theoretical approach and a quantitative accounting method for water resources to solve these problems. The study focuses on a unified accounting perspective of water quantity and quality to evaluate water use efficiency and quality. The results show improvements in water use efficiency and quality in prefecture-level cities in Hubei Province. The study also identifies differences in water resource assets, liabilities, and net assets among different regions in the province. The unified accounting perspective provides a new idea and method for water resource balance sheet preparation, which will effectively improve the management level and efficiency of water resources.

Adaptability analysis of water pollution and advanced industrial structure in Jiangsu Province, China

Yang Kong et al.

Summary: The advanced development of industrial structure is crucial for alleviating regional water quality crisis. This study aims to analyze the adaptability between water pollution and advanced industrial structure (AIS) to provide important insights for regional policy making. Using Jiangsu Province as a case study, the study assesses water pollution status from 2013 to 2019 and measures the level of AIS. The results show that targeted policies based on industrial optimization should be formulated to achieve effective water pollution control.

Coordination of the Industrial-Ecological Economy in the Yangtze River Economic Belt, China

Liang Yuan et al.

Summary: The Yangtze River Economic Belt is an important growth pole of China's economy, but it also faces severe environmental pollution. This paper analyzes the coordination degree of the industrial-ecological economy in the YREB and identifies important influencing factors. The study finds that the midstream area has a high level of coordination, while other areas show varying degrees of symbiotic or inhibitory relationships. Furthermore, the industrial ecosystem is found to be the largest factor affecting coordination.

A multi-weight fuzzy Methodological Framework for Allocating Coalition Payoffs of Joint Water Environment Governance in Transboundary River Basins

Liang Yuan et al.

Summary: This study used a triangular fuzzy number to describe the payoff and solve the fuzzy allocation problem in joint environment governance. The authors constructed a multi-weight fuzzy allocation quadratic programming model and proposed an analytical solution to determine the triangular fuzzy allocation payoffs. The results showed that the model produces outputs comparable with the Shapley value allocation method.

Spatial-temporal variation and driving factors decomposition of agricultural grey water footprint in China

Yang Kong et al.

Summary: The study analyzed the agricultural grey water footprint (GWF) of 31 provincial regions in China from 2011 to 2019 and found that overall agricultural GWF decreased with significant differences among provinces, with higher agricultural GDP areas generally having higher agricultural GWF. The research also revealed that the growth of agricultural GWF is mainly driven by agricultural GDP and limited by agricultural GWF intensity.
